1420 Mountain Bikers To Participate In 'Ride Up North'


KANGAR, March 14 (Bernama) -- The Regent of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Jamalullail will be among 1,420 mountain bikers to compete in a "Ride Up North" cycling event that involves a route featuring scenic sites in Perlis.

The 47km ride will see mountain bikers from Thailand, Japan, China, Australia, England and Malaysia converging through some interesting places said Tuanku Syed after launching the event at Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Polytechnic in Pauh on Sunday.

Apart from the Regent, Perlis Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Md Isa Sabu would also be among riders aged from 11 to 60.

The event, organised by the Perlis MTB Club would also see 63 women taking part to promote the state as a popular sports and tourist destination.

According to Perlis MTB Club secretary Sohaimee Mohd Zain, among the locations the riders would be passing through were sugar cane farms in Chuping, Temin and watermelon farms.

The ride was also a part of efforts to attract tourist to the state, he said.
